How a Banking Crisis in West Asia Sparked the Idea for Search Umbrella

Hi, I’m Sean, founder of Search Umbrella. Thanks for being here.

A few years ago, my wife, our seven youngest children (now I have your attention!), and I moved halfway around the world. We relocated to a small country in West Asia. We were there to launch a business training center for an American client. The 30 hour trip to get seven children into the country is a story worth hearing at another time.

My job as one of the owners was to get everything set up on the ground: register an LLC, find housing, secure an office, hire local staff… the works. Some of it was surprisingly simple.

But one thing nearly killed the entire project before it began: opening a bank account.

I personally visited a dozen banks before I found one that would even talk to us as Americans. Some even let me spend 2-3 hours filling out their forms in their language and within 2 minutes sent me an email denying my application. And when they finally opened an account? They wouldn’t let us put any money in it. Our American client was ready to wire funds, but the bank wouldn’t accept them.

We were given a reason for this. They demanded a complex international legal agreement detailing everything about our operations. In a tense global climate, I understood their caution. However, finding a lawyer who understood both U.S. and local law, and had time for a "small fish" like us, proved absolutely impossible.

I spent at least 40 hours on calls trying to find attorneys in both countries. Nothing. We were stuck.

After weeks of sleepless nights and a lot of prayer, I remembered reading about a new tool that had just come out: ChatGPT.

At the absolute height of frustration, I figured, "What have I got to lose?"

I typed everything I knew we needed into the prompt and added a simple request: “Tell me what I’m missing.”

The result was phenomenal. I was literally shocked! I couldn’t believe what I was holding in my hands…

In minutes, I had a clean, comprehensive international agreement that was better than 80% of the contracts I’d ever seen. I was floored. I remember walking around our small apartment (called a flat in that country), showing my laptop to my wife and kids. They shrugged, and I said, “No, you don’t understand. The world is about to change!!!”

The bank’s attorneys approved the contract.
Our local counsel approved it.
Our client’s lawyers in the U.S. said it was excellent.

Just like that, a problem that had cost me weeks of stress was solved by AI in under an hour. We could finally get paid and launch the business.

From One Problem to Every Problem

After that, AI became our unofficial star employee. This wasn't just a one-off trick; it became our core strategy for efficiency and major time savings.

  • Need to review an office lease? I ran it through ChatGPT first. It flagged missing clauses our own lawyer had missed.
  • Need rental agreements for all the apartments? AI generated the template.
  • Need employment contracts and employee handbooks for local staff? Done. We used AI to create a full suite of HR documents.

The biggest test came when our client asked for a full ethnographic and demographic study on the local population—what they eat, where they shop, income levels, family life. It was a massive research project. I used AI to build the entire report, then cross-referenced the results with local data. It was incredibly accurate. We were all dumbstruck!

All told, AI saved me over 80 hours of work that first month. It literally changed how I work and research, a change that continues to allow me to be at least twice as productive.

The Frustration That Followed Me Home

When my family and I moved back to the U.S., I went all in on AI. I started testing every platform I could find Claude, Grok, Perplexity, you name it.

I quickly realized they all possess individual strengths. Claude was incredible for creative writing and coding. ChatGPT was a logic powerhouse. Grok gave me real-time, unfiltered insights.

But my workflow became a chaotic mess. I had dozens of tabs open, constantly copying prompts from one window and pasting them into another, trying to manually compare the results. Often they were great, sometimes the results were a disaster - hallucinations were a shock to me.

I was spending an hour or two a day just shuffling between AI apps. It was inefficient, frustrating, and the exact opposite of the clarity AI had given me in West Asia.

"Why can’t I just search once and see all the answers side-by-side?"

Why wasn't there a tool that let you compare AI models instantly? Or combine the best parts of each response into a single, superior answer? Who is checking these responses for errors because sometimes the results are laughably bad…

I looked everywhere and I couldn't find one.

So after careful thought and planning I built it!

The Solution: One Search, Every AI, Zero Overwhelm

That’s the origin of Search Umbrella.

It’s the tool I wish I had when I was stuck in that foreign apartment, trying to make sense of international law. It’s built on a simple premise: you should be able to harness the collective intelligence of the world’s best AI models without the chaos.

With Search Umbrella, you enter one prompt and get results from GPT-4o, Claude 3, Gemini, and more—all on one screen. You can compare them, combine them, and get a trusted answer, fast.

It’s built for professionals—founders, attorneys, marketers, developers, real estate agents—anyone who needs to cut through the noise and get the right answer the first time.

Our story started with a real-world problem that AI helped solve. Now, we want to help you solve yours.
